St. Barth high-season preview

January 01, 1970 12.00 AM

Normally we wait until after the Christmas to do our annual St. Barth round-up but this year is especially exciting with several iconic names making their island debut. In terms of hotels, Hotel Carl Gustaf got a full overhaul by French designer Isabelle Blanchère while Hotel Le Toiny shows off a new dining room for Chef Stéphane Mazières at Restaurant Le Gaiac. But more impressive than both, Hotel Guanahani continues its renovations led by Luis Pons with two new Butler Suites including the two-bedroom Serenity Suite with private pool overlooking Grand-Cul-de-Sac.

In terms of dining, Eden Rock continues its culinary partnership with Jean-Georges Vongerichten at On the Rocks and our favorite Sand Bar. South of France beach club chain La Voile Rouge alas makes its St. Barth debut after being shuttered and demolished in St. Tropez earlier this year. It occupies the former-restaurant space poolside along the beach at Le Manapany. Also a boon to the French party crowd, Monaco’s Beefbar has taken over the former-Casa Nikki space and created a mini-spinoff complete with supper club and 2am dance floor that’s the talk of the season
